No. It is much wiser to lurk for a while, reading other peoples’ messages and trying to get the hang of what people are talking about. This will stop you from jumping straight in with a stupid question – remember – first impressions are very important.
The exception is the “Hi I’m new” post – if you introduce yourself nicely you are less likely to be derided (”flamed”) when you make mistakes.
