By: groovyf (spam@groovyf.co.uk) — The highly awaited modification for Half-Life 2 called Fortress Forever is finally with us. It’s based on the HL1 mod Team Fortress Classic and although not a direct port, has many of the features of TFC but with new additions for some of the classes weapons-wise and also has had some general gameplay tweaks. It’s been a long journey for the developers since the idea for this game mod was first brainstormed over back in 2003.

The Fortress Forever Developers have announced: “These next few months are going to be great for TF fans and halflife2 gamers alike. It is with great pleasure that we announce Fortress Forever will be released on September 13th, and of course it will be free to all halflife 2 owners . The game will release with 10 core maps featuring 6 different game modes centering around capture the flag, and capture and defend gameplay. Spread the word and get ready for action!”

Wireplay are pleased to provide the Fortress Forever community with a whopping eight pubic servers! There’s a lot to choose from, so see what takes your fancy from our full FF server list.

With sign ups now closed for Wireplay’s well received return to hosting competitive Counterstrike events, attention has turned to the round 1 draw.

Rather than quickly pulling names out of a hat, it was decided to give the honour of drawing the round 1 fixtures to an individual not associated with the competition, but who had contributed to Wireplay in the past. Enter Dave Carter, also known by many as FiRe. Dave was formerly the Community Liaison for Wireplay Counterstrike and here are the round 1 fixtures he drew:

Wireplay CS:S Mini Tournament Round 1 Fixtures

STD vs BOD
WCUK vs the58th
Blackiron vs Snots
YO vs CiC

In closing, Dave, now Counterstrike Community Liaison for Multiplay UK, wished “the best of luck to all clans involved”.

It looks like we are going to be in for a very exciting contest, with no real knowing who the strongest contenders are yet. Expect full coverage right here at Wireplay for the duration of the competition. Details on the dates of the fixtures and how you can spectate will be made available soon. Watch this space!

By: DM_Kev (dmkev@wireplay.co.uk) — We are pleased to announce that the Wireplay Counterstrike Source community will be running a mini tournament between September and October.

This five a side tournament for around eight clans is now in its sign up stage, which runs until the end of August. The victorious clan will receive a special prize, to be announced soon.

Regular player borak told us “This tournament will be great fun for the clans and players who frequent the Wireplay and Wildcards servers. It will be the first opportunity the clans have had in ages to do battle with one another. This tournament will only go further to strengthen the great bond Wireplay and Wildcards have forged from running a busy public server together. I’m delighted with the super-fast servers Wireplay run. Myself and others hope that this tournament is the first of many.”

The signup instructions and full announcement can be found here on the Wireplay forums.
