The service began only a few years ago as tool to auto update Valve’s multiplayer games, but has quickly gone on to become much more. Steam currently has more than 150 games on offer and averages more than 7 billion player minutes per month.

The platform is now used by many of the world’s leading publishers and this summer will see many more adding their titles.

Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve, says that the service will continue to grow with "many additional features and services" that will launch later this year.
